Great XC rear

This tire replaced a worn out Maxxis Rekon and has performed beautifully. After riding 500km of hardpack singletrack, I'm thoroughly convinced I made the right choice. It performs well in firm to semi loose conditions and holds up fairly well when wet. Climbing performance is surprisingly reliable. I've pushed this tire pretty hard and it has really proven to be a great rear tire. It's safe to say I won't be looking to change tires as the Purgatory's performance and value are unbeatable.

Good rear tire

I don't ride aggressive enough to lose traction, like the butcher tire the grip on these tires are good, on muddy sections of a trail they dig in to get you through and when I have to stand to lay down power they hold ground even on loose dirt, tire selection has you covered

Amazing front tire

The tire has tons of traction as a front tire. Not once did the front slide on me!! I was amazed how well the tire rolled for having lots of knobs. The sidewalls are though as nails and still nice and compliant. I am 200 lbs and run 22psi and not once did the sidewall fold on me. If you’re looking for a great front trail tire with minimal rolling resistance and lots of traction, I would highly recommend this tire.

Purgatory is Heavenly!

The Purgatory GRID T7, 29x2.6, is a fantastic front tire that steers and holds better than other tires I've used (Specialized Butcher & Maxxis Forekaster). Precise steering inspires confidence; speed through corners and accelerates out quickly.. It eats singletrack for breakfast! Rolling resistance also seems low, easily maintains speed and rolls over rough terrain. *Used primarily in Southern California.

Definetly light trail

Grid T7 Purgatory, Rolls well, wears hard, tight tubeless interface, easy to seat with typical floor pump Sidewall just too flimsy. Won't resist aggressive cornering unsurprisingly. If it had just a hair more sidewall support it could be an amazing tire. It's just so burpy (I even tried Cushcore f + r). That being said, I've burped this tire flat more than once, and didn't even put a witness mark into the bead. I am hesitant to ride this anywhere but the tamest flattest trails. But that's what it's designed to do

The Purgatory is a great

The Purgatory is a great rear tire, but needs to be offered in a 2.5 version to compliment the 2.6 Butcher with which it is often paired. A 29 x 2.6 is a lot of tire to have to pedal in the rear. Other than that, it performs quite well. Uphill sections with wet roots will give it some problems, but it hooks up fine everywhere else. When running 2.6s front and rear, it gives the bike a bit of a floaty feeling which is fun in the fact that you can roll over a lot of obstacles and they won't phase the tires. Just don't expect to be the first to the top of the hill. The 2.6s certainly are not xc tires. So yeah, I'd recommend it if you want a fun ride. If you need to ride fast, you may want to look at the 2.3.

My teens and I ride

My teens and I ride aggressive trail/Enduro bikes as our all around bikes here in Alaska/western Canada. We ride everything: tech DH/bike parks (Whistler//Alyeska), DH flow, XC, and long back country multi day bike tours, even caribou hunt off the bikes. Previously we were all riding Maxxus. My teen daughter switched to the Butcher (T9 trail) and purgatory rear (t7 grid) 2 summers ago, I switched last summer and just got a set for my son. Far superior tire to the aggressor in terms of roll and grip and predictability. For rear my daughter and I switched from an aggressor to a purgatory and my son switched from a DHR to an eliminator. Thank you Specialized for making some great tires

So far so good. Using as a rear with T7 eliminator front. Grip has been solid, and they seem to roll pretty quick, even on pavement. Coming from a Rekon rear, the speed/weight is not too far off, but seems to have better grip in fall leaf weather.

A fast rolling rear wheel

A fast rolling rear wheel with okay grip. I'd say it's on par w/ a Rekon in the EXO casing. My Purgatory prior actually lasted longer than the competitor. I wish it came in 2.6 w/ a tougher casing like the Trail casing so it has a bit better puncture resistance, but at the right price, these Purgs are a good value and I like how snappy and quick my bike is on flowtrack in the flats and over rolling hills where the terrain isn't as treacherous. In the really techy stuff, they do suffer a little bit, especially on a hardtail bike, but they are manageable.

Plenty of traction on loose

Plenty of traction on loose gravel/rocks on uphill climbs yet fast/smooth on downhill runs or flat surfaces. Max inflation is 40lbs but for trails use 25-30lb max for best traction. I recommend the 29 x 2.6 for your ride!

Great trail tyre

I think this is the best trail /AM tyre ever made. Great grip and fast rolling. Mostly been riding heavier soft tyres like Maxxis Minions. Butcher. Magic Mary. I would say that the Purgatory performes just as well when it comes to grip ( except for some terrain like rock/ root off camber) and they are much better on the up's and the flat. In short. I will buy them again.
