The all-new Chisel Comp is the perfect bike to begin your journey into XC riding and racing, with all of the features to get you to that elusive "top step" at a price that leaves some jingle jangle left over for race entries.

  • We asked ourselves, “How do we bring pro-level performance down to a price more riders can afford?” D'Aluisio Smartweld Technology, that's how. Smartweld allows us to create the most consistent, high-strength welds possible while taking full advantage of compliant, hydroformed alloy tubes. The result? One of the lightest alloy hardtail frames out there at 1,350g, which also features size-tuned stiffness.

  • The new Chisel also houses all of the modern features that you expect from an XC bike, like Progressive XC Geometry with a 68-degree headtube angle and longer reach, internal cable routing, a threaded bottom bracket, boost spacing, 30.9mm dropper post compatibility, and 1x-only drivetrains.

4.7-star xc bike for the money, read on for details

I was trying to recapture the feel of a beloved custom-spec'd and self-built 1994 S-Works steel rigid set I had to sell during hard times. But the mountain-bike marketplace has changed a lot since 1994, and so has my body. So I went looking for lightweight hard-tails with geometry similar to my old S-Works, and here's where I landed. With that as context... This bike slays. It is light and fast without compromising on toughness. The spec components shift fast and brake hard, even under load and my inexpert riding. The center of gravity is higher than I'd anticipated (29" wheels, omg) but it didn't take long to get used to it. The tubeless tire setup, btw, has given me zero issue, and tubeless is keeping these bouncy wheels nice and light. For my rig, I added a OneUp V3. It's awesome, but I wish Specialized had just spec'd and shipped the bike with a decent dropper, because internal routing is the devil to work with.

Hardtail Beast

Picked up a Chisel Comp in the 2023 red colour which looks gorgeous! The frame is a beautiful alloy example with very clean welds and is light in weight. The SRAM NX group-set shifts nicely and after a few months of riding hasn't let me down once. I wasn't expecting much from the forks, but the Judy Gold's are actually really nice, especially after you've dialled them in for your needs/ weight. This is my first hardtail purchase in a long, long time and my first ever 29er. I'm totally in love.

Amazing bike

I took my new chisel comp out on a nasty trail first day. It crushed everything with ease! What a terrific hard tail!!

Rock Solid

Silly fun to ride. And way lighter than I'd thought. Great "my first XC bike" or just a do-it-all XC bike.

Excellent ride!

Bought the Chisel Comp 6 weeks ago now. This is my 3rd Specialized MTB in 30 years (going from 1995 Rockhopper Comp to 2005 Stumpjumper Comp to this 2022 Chisel), and the ride of the bikes has become progressively better! The Chisel has a good/basic set of parts, excellent frame and perfect ride that instills confidence in the rider! It can easily be upgraded with better components in the future, the frame is really worth it.

Could be a good bike but let down by undersized fork that wobbles

Good NICA Race Bike

Light, fast bike. If you buy for racing, you will be forced to replace wheelset or use tubes. These stock wheels are very unreliable when set up tubeless. We were constantly fixing leaking beads and adding tubes until I upgraded it to carbon rims. The frame is awesome! Everything else they put on the bike is mediocre. The wheels are complete garbage.

Worthy Hardtail

The only negative is the fork that was used. It's cheap and lasted a couple of weeks.

Simple is better

Not much to say other than this bike checks all the boxes for being light, responsive, and within budget! I swapped out the stock wheelset for Roval carbon wheels and it rides like a legit race bike. Five stars.
