Epic EVO

Remember when cross country didn’t always involve a starting gun? So do we.

And, while it’ll never turn down a number plate, Epic EVO is well-acquainted with the fact that the next ridgeline makes a perfectly good finish line too, offering an incredible combination of pedaling efficiency and impressive trail-taming capability to get you there faster.

While the Epic EVO sees a seemingly modest 20-millimeter increase in suspension travel up front over its Epic stablemate and just 10-millimeters out back, we’ve worked overtime to make sure it’s been implemented in a way that’ll have you saying ‘Whoa!’ as soon as you hit your first stretch of singletrack.

Meticulously engineered to retain as much of the Epic’s standard-setting efficiency as possible, the EVO’s new suspension kinematics work in concert with our Rx XC shock tune to ensure you're able to make the absolute most out of every inch of travel on tap, while still offering increased anti-squat characteristics for improved pedaling efficiency.

With plenty of practice at staying ahead of the curve, the Epic EVO now lays claim to the most capable iteration of our Progressive XC Geometry ever to grace an Epic. It’s also more versatile than ever thanks to a new flip chip-equipped rear end that allows riders to adjust headtube angle and bottom bracket height to easily customize the Epic EVO’s handling characteristics.

Epic EVO’s flyweight FACT 11m carbon frame features heavy-hitting SRAM components and RockShox suspension for a package tailor-made for making miles disappear faster than ever.

Epic Evo is a great bike.

This bike is nice and light. Climbs great. Bombs down the down hills. Had this bike overall week now. Best mountain bike I have ever owned. It's even better then my Giant anthem. Definitely gonna be my marathon race bike.

Almost perfect

I've had this bike for eight months now and it has been generally excellent. The frame and suspension work so well together and really inspire confidence. I run the tyres tubeless and these have worked very well. The grip has been good; especially if you run the pressure a bit lower than standard (I run mine at about 30psi). The dropper post works well. This is my first bike with a dropper and I have wanted one for a long time. My previous bike was a specialized camber comp. My only gripe with this bike is the SRAM brakes. This was an issue with my camber and I eventually swapped them out. The brakes have reasonable stopping power but after just eight months have developed too much play in the levers. The pads are fine. They don't need bleeding as they are not spongey, they just had too much travel before they begin braking.

I havent had a chance to ride it yet but the service from Specialised has been great. Buying an MTB is complex so you need genuinely experienced people to talk to, and Specialised provided that. Quick and easy delivery too

I bought this to replace

I bought this to replace my Specialized Pitch hardtail. What an improvement! Instead of bouncing and sliding over humps and bumps it just glides over them and I can complete my regular single track route quicker and safer (the Monkey Trail on Cannock Chase) The hydraulic seat post is a real benefit, and having a single rear derailieur makes changing up and down quick and easy.

Solid bike

A very good bike overall. Easy to set up and keep dialled. I don’t have anything that I can find that I’d change besides grips and they could have stayed to be honest. Get frame protection because scratches and chips are the worst. I love this bike. It’s the raspberry coloured one so it’s different and not like everyone else’s. I like that.

Excellent platform

I usually buy comp level bikes because I have the wheels and upgraded components to switch to it. I bought the Evo because I’ve been waiting for two years to get a Evo Comp and it didn’t appear to be coming anytime soon. So I saw that a local shop had a base Evo, I just bought it being that I have the up grade fork, carbon wheels and up level drive train, seat etc to put on it. I’n the end although the Reba fork it comes with isn’t horrible ( a better fork is better for sure, bigger stancions) the stock rims and hubs, cassette are definitely subpar. Once you take care of that this bike is excellent and I highly recommend it or the higher spec levels. Coming off a 2020 Evo (which was excellent minus the brain shock) with the brain shock that cost me a furtune to keep working it’ll save me some money for sure too. Side note: the brakes on the Evo are dual piston my other bikes are four piston in my opinion they are all similar in stopping, was never overly impressed with Sram

Great bike only better components needed.

I bought the base model knowing I would upgrade some components. I did not think most of the components it came with would be as bad as they are.

Bought this after riding a

Bought this after riding a friend's and it's the perfect geo and fit for me. I'm coming off of a Stumpjumper and that's just too much bike if you're always on the pedals; this bike makes so much more sense to me. It flies up hills, is cross-country enough to take on tight corners with speed and handles well enough to solve certain mistakes. The Stumpy was fun, but always had me feeling cramped because I didn't have it going downhill very often. The Epic Evo is perfect to take over to NW Arkansas, but light and fast enough to compete on locally. Due to availability, I bought the base model and upgraded with the better components where I could (Hayes Dominion A2's, Control SL's, GX AXS, carbon bars). Will decide on whether to upgrade the suspension at a later date. Bike with SWAT Bandit/flat kit and Garmin pedals weighs 27.09lbs. It's so light I don't even have to hustle to set new PRs and grab Cups. Whether you stick to the base build or upgrade, I highly recommend based on geo and how light it is.

Great bike but I had

Great bike but I had it shipped to a store for set up and they did not do a great job setting it up. I know I should review the bike only but they are a specialized dealer so it’s part of the experience. Shifting is smooth and handles quick turns confidently. It’s a great ful suspension xc bike, climbs well and rides fast and smooth.

Fast and easy to ride

I picked up a 2021 SJ EVO and to replace my old Stumpjumper and i found it was just too much bike for my location (Southern Ont). Sold it and replaced with Epic EVO and I am in bike love. Climbs, corners amazing while descending like a bike with much more travel.

Awesome bike

This bike is a very light and efficient bike. If you're not doing big drops and massive jumps, this bike is more than capable. I must say one thing, the website photos doesn't do the color justice. The colors in real life looks way better. I have the Cool Grey and it is magnificent. The raspberry color is the one that has the most injustice. Looking at it on the website, I didn't like it at all. When I saw it in real life, I loved it and bought this color for my son. It is lighter in color and the black writing just stands out. I highly recommend checking out the bike at the shop before purchasing.

The name says it all...Epic!

Love this bike. The geometry is perfect for my riding style. This bike is very agile and have great control. It is also an awesome hill climbing machine. I don't have the issue with the bars hitting the top tube, perhaps because I have upgraded the bars to a 30mm riser. One thing that I highly recommend is to change the tyres to Butcher for the front and Purgatory for the rear. By doing so, it will make this bike a true Down Country bike.

This is the second epic

This is the second epic evo in our stable. My son has the comp edition and races nica with it. I knew the capability of the bike was more than I’ll ever need. So if your like me want to climb without stroking, keep up with the kids the best you can, do an all day excursion, or maybe race an xc event because you like being alive. This is the bike for you highly recommended!

Great Bike but

I purchased a '21 model in July this year so barely 5 months old. In this time I have done around 2500km so it has been well ridden. I love this bike but it has some annoying features. One issue with the '21 model is the levers hitting the frame. One owner reported frame damage on their first outing. I fab'd an aluminum guard but I shouldn't have had to. The latest issue is the fork. It is advertised as a Reba RL A9 but turns out it isn't. It is actually a spec OEM fork which is a revelation with Reba stickers on it. Problem is I now have no idea what to use for spares or upgrades. The SRAM website even specs the fork as a Reba using the serial number search function. These things annoy me as I need to maintain the bike but it makes it hard when spec does silly things like this and misleads the customer.

Actual Review by Actual Rider

The frame rides taut and precise, nice leverage progression through the travel (still have yet to use it all). Great handling, flickable, a good looking, gimmick-less classic looking design, nothing proprietary (THUMBS UP, SPESH!) room for two bottles. The only real niggle is that you've got to set the bars high enough or the first time you jacknife during a crash your top tube will get trashed. Some sort of travel limiter, a la Trek's Knock Block, would be good on the next gen. Other than that - outstanding!
