S-Works Evade w/ ANGI

Helmets have long been plagued by an unspoken rule: Light weight, ventilation, aerodynamics—pick two, there's your helmet. As you can tell by now, though, we don't play by these rules—or really any for that matter. We'd rather turn standards on their head and create products that nobody ever dreamed of. And you needn't look any further than the new S-Works Evade helmet for proof of this. Straight up, it's the fastest road helmet out there.

Beginning with the aerodynamic development, we basically lived in our Win Tunnel to create this Evade. Having our own wind tunnel allows us to develop our products with aero at the forefront of the design, rather than merely testing them there. With this, we carefully analysed every aspect of helmet performance in the Win Tunnel, and with real world testing, to ensure that we left no stone unturned in the quest for performance. This makes for a helmet that has countless testing hours and years of development, and ultimately, this adds up to the fastest road helmet we’ve ever tested.

We not only took grams out of the drag, but we did it without sacrificing safety. In fact, we switched the construction to favour our Energy Optimized Multi-Density EPS that optimizes the foam type in different places. As far as ventilation is concerned, free-flowing air through the helmet not only makes the helmet cooler than ever, but it also decreases aerodynamic drag. Going hand-in-hand with this, ventilation and aerodynamics were both optimized in the Win Tunnel together, making for the best combination of aerodynamics and ventilation out there. Now, the exterior vents and interior channels have been carefully considered to make sure that the helmet draws in the maximum amount of air through the helmet for extreme cooling. And the result? The new Evade is just as cool as a bare head with no helmet, making it the coolest aero helmet on the market today.

Through this work, the Evade saves 50 seconds over 40km versus a traditional road helmet and roughly six seconds over the prior iteration of Evade. This means that it's not only as cool as a bare head, but also as fast. For road race helmets, there’s nothing that can match this performance.

Our new ANGI Crash Sensor gives you and your loved ones peace of mind like never before—when combined with our iOS or Android app, the sensor will detect a crash and send a text message to specified contacts in your phone. It also syncs with our app and STRAVA® to provide GPS-based activity tracking.

Last, but most certainly not least, a fast helmet is useless unless it fits correctly. With this in mind, the new S-Works Evade has all the features you'd expect from a top-level helmet, like our Mindset HairPort 2 fit system with micro-adjustments, our soft webbing that won't stretch out, and a new Gutter Action brow pad that manages sweat to keep it out of your eyes. And to top it off, we've added a new magnetic buckle to the mix that makes buckling with one hand a breeze.

Color looks insane. Love it.

Color looks insane. Love it. Good fit for, yet it leaves marks on my head. So it's whether loose and no marks or keep red marks on a forehead. And construction of straps do not have any limiter, so during cycling these might hit you couple times :)

Love It!

I tested the Evade against the Prevail Vent 2 for 3 weeks in August in PA. Most days temps were near 90° Fahrenheit or above. The Evade was without doubt the cooler helmet and did a much better job of channeling the sweat away from the front of my face. It was an easy decision to make. I also love the maroon color. Beautiful helmet, and aero to boot. It is the only helmet I use now.

I've worn many a helmet

I've worn many a helmet brand over the years including Bell, Giro (many of these), Lazer and Rudy Project. None of these can compare to the fit and comfort of Specialized, Evade and Prevail. They run a bit larger so a Medium not only fits comfortably, but still slides over a skull cap in the colder weather...no need for an oversized helmet any longer. I love the magnetic buckle on the chinstrap of this model Evade and not sure it carried over to the newer version just released. I've seen complaints about the magnetic buckle, but for me, it's absolutely the way to go and that is why I now have two. Enjoy!

I bought this from Specialized Ireland, the buckle is real simple to clip on, even with gloves, Its light and comfortable and less vents than the evade, so I use it a bit more on cooler days. It's a big improvement on the previous one back in 2014, as that was a bit uncomfortable at the rear of the head, this is perfect in every way.

Had an unfortunate high speed very hard crash on my Roubaix, this helmet took a full impact and was broken and did its job. No head injury as compared to the left side of my body, hips and shoulder. It vents exceptionally well, with the closed top design and vent channels, with better safety and functionality. I like the strap closure. Absolutely great looking; state of the art. 5 star design.

I'm 50/50 about it....

It's nice, light and 'fast' (I guess). There are some issues as others have pointed out. For a top tier helmet or top end price tag of anything you sorta expect the best features and I'm not one to usually complain but this has 2 flaws. 1 being the straps, they are thin and flexible which means when you get speed over 25mph the straps bend and move around in the wind and fold over on your face, sounds minor until you experience it and it becomes a distraction on a serious descent. Second is the sweat management like people also mentioned. I just don't think it's designed with all of the safety features, aero qualities and weight and also something to try to channel the sweat away from your face/eyes. Again this is more of a distraction at the wrong times than anything else which is what makes me feel less confident and might make you take your hands off the bars at the wrong moment to wipe your face.

Saved my life on Friday June 4th 2021

My front tire exploded coming down a hill at 30mph. I fell and broke my arm and currently have road burn all throughout the left side of my body. This S-Works Evade did its job. I had no concussion and walked away from the fall. The helmet is cracked and scratched badly but my head is fine. Thank you Specialized!

Love the fit. Needs better sweat management.

I love the way this helmet fits. Ventilation is adequate on the flats at speed, not so much in the hills. I also like the sun protection. I get a lot of sweat in the brow pad and it always seems to come running down my face and into my eyes on fast descents. Not ideal. I love the peace of mind on Angi. The app is a little buggy and it doesn't always pair right away. But it's definitely a net positive and something I don't like to ride without now.

Love it, but the strap is too long.

(Second review, can't find the first to amend) This is a great helmet, in my first review I gave it 5 stars but I had only just received it and wrote the review before I rode. The only reason I'm changing it to 4 stars is because the strap is ridiculously long, and too slippery to hold in place. I hate the strap. It has been an incredible nuisance. It's not like I have a short face, either. I have to pull the strap as far as it can possibly go, and even then it doesn't hold, it slides out as I ride. I've had to take my scissors and sewing kit and doctor this strap. For the price of this helmet I would think this should not be necessary. I do like the magnetic closure, but that is the ONLY thing I like about this strap. Other than that, I love this helmet.

Top class S Works helmet

This is my 6th Specialized helmet and the best yet. I have bought others but go back time and time again for the fit and quality. The helmet is definitely noticeable with aero advantage. It is light and fits great. No problem with the chin strap and magnetic buckle is a great to have. Really pleased with the helmet as nervous about cost. Never look back. I run hot and the helmet appears light enough and well ventilated enough for me. I haven't yet tried it in full summer conditions

After a year - favorite helmet

Have the bontrager wave top of the line and boy is it noisy in comparison. Only gripe is the angi doesn't always work and the battery runs down fast. I run with a wahoo, iPhone (the specialized app running) and Di2 with garmin radar ....one has to remember that the helmet is to protect one's head in a crash, all else is secondary ""0) one star off for ANGI drops .

Looks great and fits well. Bit of a pain that you have to leave the Ride app running whilst riding but not a massive problem. My one and only real gripe would be that when you get your head down the front of the helmet seems to dip quite low. I thought at first it was my shades but no it's the front of the helmet.

Great Helmet! Previous Evade owner...Buy spare pads!!!

Great fit and comfort and extra peace of mind with the ANGi. Been using my original Evade for a few years now, had to change as the pads were done and could not find replacements. I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the latest and glad I did. Do yourself a favor, buy a couple of spare pad kits, they seem to last only for a season maybe less depending on how much your ride. Airflow seems more concentrated on the center of my head with this version

Great helmet!!!

I've had this helmet for approximately two weeks and I've used it 3 times. I really like the design, color scheme and look of the actual helmet on my head. It's narrow on the side and I don't look like I'm wearing a mushroom on my head. The only reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars, is because I'm noticing that the protective gel pads in the front of the helmet, tends to ride up and the helmet itself, rubs against my forehead. I think it just needs some adjustments, but it seems totally fixable. Lastly, I didn't realize that the ""ANGI"" service came with the helmet. I was very happy when I saw this and I activated it immediately. The ANGI provides an instant notification/text alert to someone of your choosing, in the event of a crash.

One of the best helmets I have ever had

Two weeks in, I rate this a 5. I raced for many years and had Bell and Giro team helmets, all good quality products. This is the best MIPS design I have had, and I like solid center-top designs IF they vent well; this one really does. As an engineer I have a good perspective on ""claims"" vs ""actuals"". This is a really good design!

Hands down excellent Helmet...ANGi should be optional

Like the overall fit and comfort, pretty much comparable with my Prevail ( Sz Small ). Certainly feel the aero benefit over the Prevail vs headwind ( 2 rides, both 60 miler, 6-10 mph wind gusts, 70-90 F ). Inside airflow seems comparable to Prevail. ANGi, on the other hand should be optional. My Ambush Helmet has one but never even used it. It would be nice to just have this as an ""add-on"" item instead than have customers pay for something they don't need.

Great product with room for improvement

This is a well-built, advanced road biking helmet with significant aerodynamic enhancement. The introduction of MIPS is overdue, though it'd be great for the manufacturer to quantify its cranial and brain protection. I could do without the emergency contact accident notification since that function is built into phones, watches, and computers already, but an adjustable chin strap should be a given.

My Evade Helmet Saved My Life!!!

I wear this helmet for all my training and triathlons. One of my favorite features is the magnetic buckle on the chin strap. HOWEVER, WE FORGET WHAT HELMETS ARE REALLY FOR! I was on an unfamiliar street at the end of a long ride, and missed a stop sign. I braked hard to avoid colliding with a car, and subsequently fell. I felt my head hit the street. My helmet is cracked in two places and there are some small dents in the shell. I am ALIVE, I don't have a concussion, or a laceration , or a subdural hematoma. Excellent fit and comfort, tracking app a bit disappointed

I rode a century on Saturday, about 6800 feet in climbing overall. The helmet fits perfectly and was extremely light an comfortable. After hours on the road, the helmet still fit and breathed as expected. While I didn't need the ANGI sensor I was glad I had that option. One downfall of the sensor is that you have to be recording on your Specialized app. Definitely a pain since most cyclists have a bike computer tracking results and not using their phone for that purpose. I would suggest an interface with bike computer or integration with Strava for life line tracking.

MIPS SL2, hhhmmm...

For me, MIPS SL2 is a bit of a leap of faith. The pads don't move as much as original MIPS. So, I am just trusting manufacturer testing on that. I'd like this helmet to be offered without ANGi. Bike computers have the same function without the hardware cost and annual subscription. Otherwise, a very nice helmet. Just as silent as the original Evade, slightly less aero-dork style with the shorter tail. Hope the brow pad is as effective as advertised at directing sweat away from eyes.

Magnetic buckle rocks!

Magnetic buckle and MIPS were the only two things I needed/wanted. The buckle is especially fabulous for cold cold fingers in transition in triathlons. The ANGI I do not need as I am not in a good cell area. The aero-road helmet was fabulous, but not a necessity for me. Kinda hard to figure out from the website and even in a store which helmet had the buckle and MIPS.. ended up buying the wrong one, returning it after a customer service rep phone call, and bought the one I wanted.
