Rime 2.0 Mountain Bike Shoe

Delivery Icon

We deliver! Just say when and how.

Built for high-alpine terrain, the Rime 2.0 brings rugged capability to ensure you can conquer any mountain trail. XPEL mesh lining sheds while you shred, preventing the shoe from becoming water-logged in creek crossings and will dry overnight. Our Lollipop™ midsole construction is paired with a gnarly Vibram rubber outsole creating superb/unmatched off-bike push-ability for getting over any unrideable terrain. For closure, a standard lace is paired with a L6 Boa® for precise fit, on-bike adjustability, and redundancy to keep you riding when you're in the backcountry.

A good purchase

Awesome shoe. Good Looking. Love the Vibram soles. Fits perfectly, though I did add more arch support with insoles. Very comfortable. And also warm. Good power transfer to the pedals. Really like them.

Long term review

I have had a pair of Rime 2.0’s since June 2021 which have served as my sole (ha) cycling shoe, covering thousands of miles from desert to alpine, primarily paired with a Mallet E pedal. They have performed exactly as advertised - stiff enough to put down the power and tough enough for extended off-bike travel, but comfortable, breathable, and able to shed water effectively after full-foot immersion. The lace and Boa system provides excellent fit, but it does require careful tightening to prevent the corners of the tongue from digging into the ankle. Take the time to set it correctly, though, and it’s secure for hours. I hope Specialized continues to make this shoe for years to come. I will buy it again whenever these ones finally wear out.

Great shoes!

Very comfortable, stiffer sole for pedaling comfort compared with other shoes, but still comfortable for walking. Happy!

Nice shoe that could be even better.

I have had the last two iterations of the rime shoe and love them. I bought these but ended up returning them as the fit a bit loose for the size. If they offered a boa/Velcro or boa alone I would give it another go. For me the laces slow things down too much as I still am old school and take my knee pads off for climbs.

These are great! They feel

These are great! They feel like traditional tennis shoes or light hiking shoes when not on the bike. I use them for casual riding (no spandex), camping, and bike packing. cleats do not contact the ground. I went with a 45 and I usually wear a 10.5/11. The 45's give me plenty of wiggle room at my toes. Maybe a half inch of space.

Really happy with purchase

They are stiff like a cycling shoe but also work well for hiking in steep terrain, they lace very tight and the BOA system is a nice feature. I am finding them very comfortable and stylish.

Already falling apart

Bought these to try out cause they were on sale and wasn't ready to pull the trigger on high end shoes. I really like the sole and once they broke in they are comfortable. Unfortunately I have a wide foot and there are very few wide shoes out there. Don't think I am at 200 miles on them yet. The seams are starting to come apart already. If you dont have a wide foot these are a great shoe.

Fit is a bit tight

Great shoe but fit is a bit tight. I wear a 12 and ordered a size 46 which is what has always worked when dealing with Euro sizes. But here my toes are at the tip and rubbing - I would order a size up next time.

Comfortable while riding as well as when having to "hike-a-bike"

I ride some pretty rough terrain, much of the time well off-trail which for an old guy like me (73 yrs) means "hike-a-bike" is a regular thing due to the rocky inclines and sandy washes I encounter in the dry country of Arizona. That said, I've been riding Specialized Tahoes for over two years and they worked wonderfully but I've simply worn out the tread. With the Tahoes no longer available I thought try the Rimes and they are every bit as comfortable as I expected with the bonus of the BOA to keep "loose-lace syndrome" under control.

Great shoe

I tend to use flats for mountain biking but I'll use these for everything else (commuting longer distances, touring, gravel riding, road riding). I went to a number of bicycle specific stores and outdoor stores and everything having to do with bike shoes seemed to be dialed in for intense racing, not as a do everything shoe. They were all immediately uncomfortable for my feet (my feet are nothing special). I found reviews that included this shoe on bikepacking.com and ordered a set to replace my past shoes which did just about everything but were disgustingly worn out and gave me numb toes after about 15 miles of hard riding. Initial impression: The fit of the shoe in general was pretty good, I like the adjustability of the laces and the boa in combination as I often want a planted heel but don't want to put too much pressure on the rest of the foot. Insoles felt a bit strange. My toes went numb after about 20 miles on the first ride. I ended up trying out Specialized insoles to replace the originals for a taller arch and moving the cleat around a tad and that did the trick! Shoes work great now, I'm super happy. Plus they aren't all black, I just find black shoes to be boring. My only gripe: walkability isn't ideal but if I really think I'll be walking a lot I use flip pedals (one side cleats, the other side platforms) paired with regular sneakers.

I bought these for a 3,000 mile ride up to Alaska from June-Aug. The fit was perfect (wide), and they kept my feet warm and dry. They did get a smelly once they were wet, but they did the job well.

Great cycling shoe! I have

Great cycling shoe! I have a few hundred winter miles on them already and they've performed wonderfully. They stay dry and reasonably warm when paired with shoe covers. Can't speak to summer performance yet, but I anticipate they'll do well. As someone with a wider fit that prefers Altras for running, the fit is just right after sizing up a half size. Rigid enough for pedaling efficiency, but also have good grip for the occasional hike-a-bike and walking on snowpacked roads.

Just breaking them in. Overall, they seem to be a quality cycling shoe. I would prefer to not have the laces. The tongue has to be adjusted each time I have to put them on. Also, needed to put a nice foot bed in, with an arch support and an actual heel cup, to replace the standard one it comes with. I look forward to seeing how they hold up after a season of use.

I purchased these shoes for

I purchased these shoes for a more robust shoe with better grip prior to a 10 day MTB bikepacking trip. I have worn these shoes now for 1 week, not offroad yet. The soles are stiff but still very walkable. I have a carbon soled pair of gravel shoes and a pair of Shimano shoes that are more like running shoes. These Specialized shoes have a soles that is halfway between the two. The Boa strip keeps the laces from coming undone and keeps them out of the chainrings! The shoes come fitted with ‘dummy’ cleats that looks real. Just remember to remove them and fit proper metal cleats!

I usually wear a size

I usually wear a size 41, they fit like a glove. 41.5 gives my toes a bit of room to move. The shoes are easy to walk in with a flexible sole. The cleats I’m using are slightly recessed so they don’t scuff the hardwood floors in my home. The shoe tongue is a bit short. It would be nice if it had a soft pull tab or strap to extend the length.

Great shoe! Fit is true

Great shoe! Fit is true to size..Getting the laces to lay comfortably under the strap is a bit of a challange, but I'm certain they will break in and I will get more used to using laces vs velcro! I do quite a bit of "hike-a-bike" rides and these shoes are grippy and comfortable. They ride great too, but I would probably use my Sidis for rides that don't have alot of walking. I liked them so much I already ordered a second pair!

I ride paved trails

I'm old, 70. I kinda smashed my feet up, along with bilateral tibia plateau fracture and 13 screws and rod in tibia because of a car wreck 15 years ago. Several years later, went down kinda fast on a dirt trail fully clipped in. Switched to Diety flats on MTB and road bike and low top hiking shoes. 10 years on, foot pain became a little unbearable after 30 miles. Got some Rime 2.0 and Deore XT spd pedals and went from painful to uncomfortable. For me, an unquestionable and quantifiable improvement. MTB gear for a road bike? It better distributes the weight of foot bed, so why not? Just hope i don't go down fully clipped in again, thinking you're on flats and not spd is a hard habit to break when stopping the bike.

An absolutely excellent shoe, especially

An absolutely excellent shoe, especially if you have wide feet. I like to do all day adventures that involve a bit of hike-a-bike and these are perfect. Along with the comfort, I particularly like the laces flap and retention dial that keeps your foot in place. I had bought some equivalent Shimano ME7’s and they were about 10mm narrower and too rigid in the sole for all day comfort. These are the only cycling shoes that I could comfortably wear around when I’m not riding. I even drive with them. 10/10.

Great shoe, runs small

I wear an 11.5. I bought a 45 initially and my big toe rubbed the front of the shoe and the arch support didn’t line up with my foot’s arch. I exchanged it for a 46 and now all is well. The tongue digs into my foot a little but I think that will soften up as it’s flexed and becomes more broken in.

Great Shoe But They Runs Extremely Small

As usual Specialized makes an awesome product. However, I have a problem with the sizing of this shoe. I ordered shoes based on the direction of the Specialized size guide, specifically the URL on the size guide page “Find Your Size.” This is where one measures each foot and inputs the feet measurements, and their database tells the size shoe to order. According to Specialized “Find Your Size” I wear a size 41, but to be on the safe side, I also ordered a half-size up. Both sizes 41 and 41.5 are way too small. I am disappointed because the shoes are made so well. Four Stars because the size guide is not providing the correct shoe size.

trouble with the Boa

Shoe fits well. Very comfortable riding, especially with the Specialized insole I've been using. Comfortable walking as well. My problem is with the Boa knob. It can't be loosened on the fly, you have to pull the knob out to loosen the tension. Though actually that isn't the major problem which is the Boa loosens by itself during a ride. Every half an hour or so I will reach down and the Boa strap has lost all tension. The laces don't do a bad job by themselves but I find all this with the Boa annoying. Would not buy again.

Great combination of Laces and Strap

I like lace up shoes and the incorporation of cinch strap over the lace ends provides good support. Large area to adjust clet placement. Wide and deep cleat area for easy hoof into peddle while keeping the cleat tucked away when walking (no cleat click). Had good traction when climbing up firm dirt trail.

Outstanding shoes!

I`m located in Switzerland and have had these Rimes for about half a year now. They quickly became my shoes of choice for all trail rides. I customized them with blue Specialized footbeds for best arch support. This is why they do great for me: - Well balanced stiffness of sole: efficient pedaling, yet walkable almost like a light hiking shoe - Great traction off bike, dry and wet, all surfaces - No foot fatigue on long descents, out of saddle - Sufficient foot protection when hitting roots and rocks - Comfortable all around, great fit (my foot is on the narrow side) - Shed water quickly, comfy when wet, too - Dry quicker than other shoes I have owned - Up to now, very durable, no signs of unusual wear I`d love to see an evolution of this model with two Boa dials, but the current lacing/dial combination works well I must say. Also, having a boot-style, waterproof version of it would be excellent for fall and spring conditions in Europe. Thanks, Specialized, for this superb trail footwear!

Smartly designed and durable

Have worn these shoes multiple times over the past few weeks and they are excellent. Well-made, well-designed. I expect them to last quite a while. They fit well and are comfortable. Good foot protection as well. Hit a rock with my foot sandwiched between it and the pedal without any damage. Highly recommended. Would replace if lost or stolen.
